2nd Lt. Stone, while serving in 2nd Conn. Heavy Artillery (Co. C), Nov. 23, 1863, to August 18, 1865; previously, he served as a private in 19th Conn. Inf. (Co. A), July 26, 1862, to Nov. 23, 1863, when it was redesignated an artillery unit.

Stone later in life in GAR uniform. He was very active in Ulric Dahlgren Post No. 25, GAR, Elizabeth, New Jersey.

Stone's 2nd Connecticut Heavy Artillery badge incorporating the insignia of the Sixth Corps, crossed artillery cannons, and the state seal of Connecticut. The top oval surrounding the "2" is inscribed "LT. G. D. Stone C.V.H.A."

Cranford Citizen and Chronicle (NJ), 3/19/1931. In addition to being a real estate agent in Cranford at the turn of the last century, in 1914 he was appointed superintendent of veterans graves, as well as law librarian at the Elizabeth courthouse.
