Robert C. Lloyd, 79, of San Angelo died Monday, Jan. 11, 1999, in Angelo Community Hospital, San Angelo, Texas.

Service will be at 11:30 a.m., Wednesday, Jan. 13, in Johnson's Funeral Home with the Rev. Guy White and the Rev. John Cash officiating. Burial will follow in Lawnhaven Memorial Gardens.

Mr. Lloyd was born Dec. 23, 1919, in Wood County, Texas to Martin Luther and Edna Campbell Lloyd.

Robert graduated from Ira High School, Ira, Texas, afterwards receiving a basketball scholarship to McMurry College in Abilene, Texas which he attended prior to joining the U.S. Army Air Corp.

Robert served in the Army Air Corp as a B-25 pilot during World War II in the China-Burma-India Theater with the 14th Air Force, 341st Bomb Group, 22nd Bomb Squadron, flying 56 combat missions and achieving the rank of Major.

Mr. Lloyd received the Distinguished Flying Cross, American Campaign Medal, American Defense Medal, and the World War II Victory Medal along with several Air Medals for combat aerial operations.

In 1953 Robert married Velma Ruth Cole in Lovington, N. M. He was a member of Edmund Boulevard Baptist Church in San Angelo, Texas.

Mr. Lloyd was a drilling foreman for Continental Oil Co. in Hobbs, N. M. for 13 years and a drilling supervisor for George B. Roberts Consultants in Houston for 11 years.

Mr. Lloyd was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, and one sister.

Survivors include his wife, Velma Ruth Lloyd of San Angelo; two sons, Sam H. Knight of Big Spring, and Robert M. Lloyd of San Angelo; one daughter, Barbara Gayle Cooley of Haines City, Florida; two brothers, Sigmon and Ceward D. Lloyd, both of San Angelo; four grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Terry Lloyd, Ronnie Cole, Flint Knight, Elwayne Crotwell, Jack Downey, and John Dennis.
