[published on Thu, Sep 15, 2005] The Northwest Herald McCULLOM LAKE – Virginia L. Aalto, 88, of McCullom Lake, a resident of McHenry since 1945, died Tuesday, Sept. 13, 2005, at her home, surrounded by family.
She was born May 1, 1917, in Skokie, to Nicholas and Catherine (Stresser) Schuller. On July 16, 1942, she married Ray Aalto in Richmond, Va.
In May 1982, she retired from McHenry Savings Bank, where she had worked for 25 years. She was a vice president and branch manager at the Richmond location. In 1968, she was elected as the first woman trustee for the village of McCullom Lake. She was a member of St. Mary's of the Assumption Catholic Church in McHenry.
Survivors include three children, Carol (Mike Caouette) Boas of Richmond, Bill (Corinne) Aalto of Spring Grove and Mary (John Kobierski) Aalto of Powers Lake, Wis.; four grandchildren, Shelley (Paul) Dompe' of Whittier, Calif., Christy (Mike) Brown of Las Vegas, Brian Aalto of McHenry and Jeff Aalto of Spring Grove; and five great-grandchildren, Scire Dompe', Haley Dompe', Macalec Brown, Makaila Brown and Makendon Brown.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; a sister, Margaret Chambers; and a son-in-law, Kenneth Boas.
The visitation will be from 9:30 a.m. until the 11 a.m. service Saturday, Sept. 17, at Colonial Funeral Home, 591 Ridgeview Drive, McHenry. The Rev. Robert Sherry will officiate.
Interment will be in St. Mary's Cemetery in McHenry.
