Joan Salisbury Tannahill, of Davenport, Iowa, died July 14, 2013, at Trinity Hospital in Bettendorf, Iowa. Cremation will be done with a visitation to be held 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, at Mount Moriah & Freeman Funeral Home Kansas City, Mo. A funeral service will be 11 a.m. Thursday, at the funeral home. Online condolences may be shared at www.rungemortuary.com. Joan was born in Kansas City, Mo. on Feb. 18, 1930, and spent most of her life in Kansas City. She moved to Davenport in 2012. She earned a BS from the University of Kansas and her MA from the University of Missouri-Kansas City. She was a teacher in the Kansas City Missouri School District for 20 years and retired from the Kansas City Middle School of the Arts, Spring 1994. She was a member of the Kansas City Federation of Teachers and served as president of the Retiree Chapter and the Red Bridge chapter 804 of AARP also serving as president. Survivors include four children, Bruce and Deanna Tannahill, Waukee, Iowa, Brian Tannahill and Diana Reese, Overland Park, Craig and Sharon Tannahill, Bettendorf, Iowa, and Leslie Tannahill and Kevin Tuohy, Chatfield, Minn.; brother, Wayne Salisbury, Kansas City; stepmother, Estella Salisbury, Kansas City; half brother, Steve Salisbury, Moore, Okla.; seven grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a brother, Dick Salisbury, Sugarland, Texas, and ex-husband, Ralph, Kansas City.
