Bedford – Veva Elaine Allen, 75, of Bedford, passed away at 5:20 pm on Wednesday, January 26, 2022, at I.U. Health Bloomington Hospital.

Born November 18, 1946, in Lawrence Co., she was the daughter of Robert and Nancy (Strunk) Slaton Stout. She married Harold Paul Allen on July 28, 1967, and he preceded her in death on January 7, 2012.

She began working for North Lawrence Community Schools in 1987 as a Title I Aide and was a custodian until her retirement in 2006. She attended the Living Word Church in Bedford and was a member of SoTA quilting club. She enjoyed sewing and quilting.

Survivors include three daughters, Melissa Hackney and husband, Dave, of Leesville, Jamie McGarvey and husband, Rick, of Bloomington, Geri James, of Bedford; two sons, Josh Allen and wife, Jennifer and Scott Allen, all of Heltonville; seven grandchildren, Tyler McGlocklin, of Bedford and Gunner Allen of Heltonville, Jacob Perry and wife, Taylor and Mikala Haag, both of Leesville, Chase Allen, of Heltonville, Nathan and Evan Williams, both of Bloomington; three great-grandchildren; two brothers, Fred Stout and wife, Julie, of Bedford, Ron Slaton and wife, Linda, of Scottsburg; two sisters, Janna McArtor and Sherrie Dawn Johnson and husband, Danny, all of Springville; several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, her step-father, Fred Stout; a brother, Chester Stout (in infancy); one great-grandchild; sisters, Henrietta Cochran and Sylvia Bailey; a brother-in-law, Eugene Phillips who was like a father to her.

Funeral services will be conducted at 1:00 pm on Monday, January 31st in the Elmwood Chapel of the Day & Carter Mortuary. Burial will follow in Gilgal Cemetery. Visitation will be from 10:00 am until the hour of service on Monday, January 31 at the Day & Carter Mortuary. The family would like to invite friends to a celebration of life at the Heltonville Ball Park at 2:30 pm on Monday, January 31st .
