Pastor Floyd D. Nelson, born in Sullivan County, Tenn. on November 11, 1936, went on his flight in the arms of Jesus to his heavenly home on Friday, April 19, 2019.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert M. and Garnet R. Nelson, five sisters and two brothers, several nieces and nephews, several sisters- and brothers-in-law, and a host of close friends.

He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Carolyn B. Nelson; two brothers, David and friend Dee of Greenville, Tenn., and Clay and wife Shirley of Bluff City, Tenn.; three brothers-in-law, Charles Baumgardner of Vermontville, Mich., Thomas Baumgardner and wife Shirley of Bristol, Va., and Harold Baumgardner of Lebanon, Va.; three sisters-in-law Evelyn Stevens of Abingdon, Va., Bertha Cannon of Meadowview, Va., Lee Smith and husband Kent of Bristol, Tenn.; several nieces and nephews; and a host of close friends.

He was saved by God’s grace through faith in Christ Jesus in October 1946 in the same little mountain home where he was born. From childhood up, he had a devoted love for God and his Holy Word, the Bible. He enjoyed his time alone with God in prayer and Bible study. He loved his pastor work by serving God, helping friends whom he loved as his own, and seeing that all of their needs were met.

The family will receive friends from 5:00 PM – 9:00 PM on Sunday, April 21, 2019 at the Main Street Chapel of Farris Funeral Service. A funeral service will be held on Monday, April 22, 2019 at 11:00 AM at the funeral home with Pastor Jerry Fritz, Pastor Timothy Stevens, Pastor Tommy Tester, and Dr. Bob Neace officiating. Interment will follow in Forest Hills Memory Gardens, where Billy Denton, Troy Hinchey, Sam Price, Danie Mitchell, Roy Owens and Michael Norris will serve as casket bearers. Honorary bearers will be Pastor Jack and Virginia Sprinkle, Jack and Mary Atwell, Brother Cecil Garrett, Brother Darrell Watson, Brother Wesley Eller, Jack and Joyce Brooks, Kevin and Diane Smith, and any preachers that may attend.

The family would like to thank Dr. Robinette, Dr. Barrett and the staff at Ballad Hospice for the love and care shown to Floyd during his illness.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorial contributions be made to St. Jude Children’s Hospital, 262 Danny Thomas Place, Memphis, TN 38105; or @www.stjude.org.
