Mark E. Day, 85, passed away Tuesday Oct. 25, 2011 in Beech Grove. He was a resident of Greenwood.

Mark was born August 26, 1926 in Smith Valley–Greenwood to Edward E. and Eliza "Mae" (McCoy) Day. He married Phyllis Richarson on May 18, 1981.

He was employed with National Starch Chemical Corp in production for 12 years, retiring in 1981. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and making fishing rods. He was a master gardener and loved to cook. He loved baseball and softball. He coached little league baseball at Center Grove for 7 years. He was a member of Smith Valley Methodist Church.

He is survived by his wife, Phyllis Day of Greenwood, three children, Connie (Rick) Byerly of Greenwood, K. Mark Day of Illinois, Darrel E. Day of Florida, four step-children, Allen (Elaine) Martin and Jim (Shirley) Cress both of Texas, Yvonne (Wayne) Leslie of Louisiana, and Scott Cress of Greenwood, ten grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters, Elizabeth Dowden and Othello Adams and a brother, Edward M. Day.

A funeral service will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. Saturday Oct. 29, 2011 at Jessen Funeral Home, Whiteland Chapel, 729 U.S. Hwy 31 North. Friends and family may call from 11: 00 a.m. until service time at the funeral home. Burial will be at Mt. Pleasant Cemetery Glenns Valley in Greenwood.
