Knoxville News-Sentinel, The (TN) - Thursday, March 4, 1999

LEWIS, JACK S. - age 77, of Greenback, passed away Tuesday evening, March 2, 1999, at Colonial Hills Nursing Center. He was of the Baptist faith. Retired from ALCOA and member of the 25 year club. Veteran of the US Army having served during WWII. He fought in five campaigns, received the Bronze Star Medal, four Bronze Service Stars, and the Bronze Arrowhead for action in the European Theater. Preceded in death by parents, Mitchell and Pearl Lewis. Survivors: wife, Virginia Lewis; daughter and son-in-law, Mary Jane and Glen Starling, Loudon; daughter, Ann Lewis, Philadelphia; granddaughter, Virginia Ann Lewis, Philadelphia; sisters, Lucille Steele, Friendsville, Helen Stringwell, Michigan, Betty Jenkins, Florida; brothers, John Lewis, Oak Ridge, Fred Lewis, Greenback; several nieces and nephews. Funeral service 7:30 p.m. Thursday, March 4, 1999, Miller Funeral Home Chapel, Rev. Lee Fuller, Rev. Charles Carpenter officiating. Family and friends will meet 11 a.m. Friday at Sherwood Memorial Gardens Mausoleum for the entombment. Memorial contributions may be made to Hickory Valley Bible Baptist Church, 3920 W. Lamar Alexander Pkwy., Friendsville, TN 37737. The family will receive friends from 6:30-7:30 p.m. Thursday at Miller Funeral Home, Maryville.
