He is survived by his wife of nearly 50 years, Joan Stout, his 11 children Donald Stout (Kim), Robert Stout (Anne), Deena Tijunin (Nolik), David Stout, Sheri Stout (John), Stephen Stout, Henry Stout (Jonna), Linda Robertson (Gerry), Pam Stout (Don), Greg Stout (Dawn) and Brian Stout; his sister Lorraine Stout, 23 grandchildren and 39 great-grandchildren. He was born in Indianapolis on February 28, 1926.

He was preceded in death by his parents Maurice Ray Stout, Sr. and Mariam Medcalf; brothers George Stout, Tom Stout and James Stout; sisters Virginia Hano, Jane Pritchard, Nancy Boals, and Barbara Stout; and granddaughter Carisa Johnson.

After spending a short time living in Chicago, his family moved back to Indiana. They lived in Fort Wayne and New Castle before finally settling back in Indianapolis. After quitting High School at Arsenal Tech in 1943, he worked several manufacturing jobs before tricking his father into signing his Navy enlistment papers to help fight in World War II. In October of that year, he is shipped off to Camp Greenbay in Great Lakes, Illinois for boot camp. After boot camp, he was sent to Dearborn, Michigan to the Naval School of Motor Maintenance conducted by the Ford Motor Company. Maurice got his Machinist’s Mates School certification. He is soon sent to the Pacific on the USS Guavina submarine making six patrols, destroying enemy ships and rescuing Allies whose planes had been shot down. After his time in the Navy, Mauri worked at the Veterans Administration, where he met his first wife Patricia Johnson. They are married in September of 1948. They go on to have 9 children together.

In 1950, Maurice joined the Indianapolis Police Department. He would work as a uniform Police Officer and Detective for 34 years. As a detective in the 1970’s, he would be part of a team of detectives that solves a high profile murder case that would get national coverage in the magazine “Inside Detective”.

In 1969 Mauri would marry his second wife Joan Shotts and would go on to have 2 children with her. Mauri and Joan would have celebrated 50 years of marriage this December 12th.

Upon his retirement from the Police Department in 1984, Mauri started working for the Attorney General’s Office as a Medicaid Fraud Investigator. After working there for 5+ years, he worked for Indiana National Bank in the Security Division. He would work there until he finally retires from the workforce for good.

Mauri was actively involved with the Wanamaker VFW, serving as Commander, District Commander and Quartermaster. In 2007, he was inducted into the US Submarine Veteran’s Holland Club. In 2012, he was a member of the first Indy Honor Flight. He and 79 other WWII vets were flown to Washington D.C. to attend a celebration in honor of our veterans and spend the day at the nation’s capital.

Mauri loved his family and enjoyed getting together with them as often as possible. He enjoyed attending ball games, going to the movies (mainly for the popcorn) and going to see his grandchildren participate in musical and sporting events. He will be missed greatly.

Burial will be at New Crown Cemetery.
