Joyce Zimmerle Watson was born and raised in Winner, South Dakota, on a farm started by her grandparents and inherited by her parents. She attended elementary and secondary schools, and then went on to graduate from business school in South Dakota.

After graduating business school, she joined the Civil Service during World War II and moved to Washington D.C. to work as a secretary in the Pentagon for the duration of the war. She then moved to San Francisco, California, and continued to work as a secretary for a couple of years. After which, she moved back to South Dakota and met her future husband.

Joyce married Halworth Watson on Aug. 20, 1947, in Bozeman, Montana. They were blessed with three children in the coming years - two sons and a daughter. While in Bozeman, Joyce worked in and helped run the family owned Watson Drive-In and Dipper Ice Cream businesses. After the businesses were sold, Hal and Joyce moved around the State of Montana as he worked as a Soil Conservationist for the Department of Agriculture. They lived at various times in Townsend, Ennis, Harlowton and Havre. She continued to work as a secretary in medical offices as they moved around Montana. In 1981, they moved back to Bozeman to retire. At the end of her life, she lived in Livingston, Montana, in a nursing home.

Joyce enjoyed gardening, knitting, crocheting, reading, doing crafts that included copper etched pictures, quilting, sewing and doing art through painting and sketching. She also had a lifelong love of words and vocabulary and enjoyed doing crossword puzzles and word searches. Joyce was a kind person and in her younger years was very social and outgoing. She also loved the sun.

Joyce is survived by her daughter, Valerie Watson; and her sister, Phyllis Kelley; as well as two grandchildren, Travis and Chandra; and two great-grandchildren, Kiera and Cameron.
