Similar to many other individuals from Oklahoma, Texas, and Arkansas during the Great Depression, she traveled to California with her whole family in search of greater work opportunities. She was the daughter of Lewis "Boss" Colvard and Dela Mae Colvard (Mama D), and represented the last of 8 siblings. Darlene's loved ones will remember her by the many stories she would tell, the catch phrases she used, her draw to always have a good time, her enjoyment of Reno trips and family reunions, her singing, her poems, and the positive energy and laughs she brought to others.
She is survived by many including her 5 children, 20 grandchildren, 25 great grandchildren, and 2 great great grandchildren. Darlene will continue to be known to many of them as "Grandma Goosey."
A graveside service will be held at 11:00am on Saturday April 13th at Irvington Memorial Cemetery in Fremont. And a celebration of life to follow for family and friends in Newark, California.
