Peggy's family moved to Grass Valley, California in 1940. She attended local schools. She worked at the Del Oro, 49er Café, Fosters Freeze, Holiday Restaurant, Kathy's Kitchen, Johnnie's Donuts, and Lyons. In later years, she was a custodian at local schools, retiring from Champion Mine School. In October 1983, she married the love of her life, Bill Gomes.
She enjoyed camping with her large family at the ocean and in the mountains. She loved yard sales and could scarcely resist a bargain. She attended all the many family birthday parties and the potlucks for Christmas, Halloween, Thanksgiving and Easter. She loved her flowers, the movies, the county fair, and Christmas ornament and figurine collecting. She also loved country western music, especially Willie Nelson. She enjoyed doing jigsaw puzzles with her sisters and friends. She deeply loved her two doggie daughters, Layla and Maizy. She never stopped trying to raise her siblings, even when they were long since grown. Peggy had total recall of Grass Valley over her life, remembering all of the past businesses, buildings and people. She was able to remember the details of long ago.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Honey Bill; her parents; her brother, Danny McLaughlin; and her niece, April Dee.
Survivors: siblings, Burl McLaughlin and Roger McLaughlin (Shelley), Joyce Mowry of Auburn, CA, Diana McLaughlin, Kathy Cassano (Andy) and Judy Uchida (Stu); stepdaughter, Tammy Webb; her best friend, Juanita Flowers; and many other family members.
Graveside services will be at 1:00 P.M., Thursday, April 11, 2019, at Greenwood Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Grass Valley. Potluck reception to follow at the Bethel Church, 13010 Hwy 49, Grass Valley.
