Born in Peoria on June 29, 1945, to Lyle and Helen Kimmel Clinebell, one of five brothers, Rick is survived by only one brother, Gary of Wyoming, Ill.; and James' two children, John of Los Angeles and Sarah (Mike) Speciale of Phoenix.
Receiving his early education in Stark County, Ill., schools, Rick graduated a merit scholar from Wyoming Community High School, consequently graduating from Knox College, San Francisco, Washington and St. Louis universities with high honors, resulting in a Ph.D. in botanical statistics.
He received large grants in research from the Smithsonian Institute and the federal government and worked at the Missouri State Botanical Gardens, Alton's Community College, the city of St. Louis and for the United States Government in restoration work along the Mississippi River at St. Louis.
He was baptized at Wyoming Methodist Church in 1947 and confirmed at the Wyoming Congregational Church 10 years later.
He remained active in his prairie garden up to the last minutes of his life. His ashes will be incorporated in the flowers at his favorite hill side. His heart will continue to ache for nature and his soul will continue with those who delight in the flight of bumble bees.
A memorial service to celebrate the life of Richard will be held at Kutis City Funeral Home, 2906 Gravois, St. Louis, Mo., on Saturday, Feb. 25, 2006, at 1:30 p.m. Visitation will be from noon until time of service at the funeral home.
