Constance Joan Needy “Jodie” was born on June 7, 1934, in Eldon, Missouri, to Tom and Connie Edwards who were in the movie theatre business. The day of Jodie’s birth, the marquee read “A Star is Born.” In her high school years, Jodie was a high-stepping majorette and cheerleader for 4 years, leading a full marching band down the town’s main street. She was active in volleyball and tennis and became the basketball and football queen. At the University of Missouri, she pledged Kappa Alpha Theta in 1954. In 1956, she graduated with a degree in education and taught elementary school before marrying Jack Needy in 1957. Together they lived in Topeka, Kansas for a year before moving to Fort Lauderdale, Florida, where she resided for 27 years. In Ft. Lauderdale, she was very active in social circles and became president of the Junior League. Jodie also started a language disability school and diagnostic center for kids with learning disabilities. A sudden move took her back to Missouri where she became volunteer coordinator at the University of Missouri Hospital in Columbia. She was also president of Kings Daughters and a 60-year member of PEO. In 1997, Jodie’s husband Jack died suddenly of a brain aneurysm. In 2001, Jodie moved to Colorado where she’s been active in Theta and PEO and was president of the Symphony Guild. She also traveled to Italy for a tour with her cycling club which was a highlight for her. Jodie was a long-time participant and graduate of Bible Study Fellowship and attended Faith Church for the past 10 years. Off and on for the past several years, Jodie has been working on a children’s book titled The Adventures of Horace the Frog, and enjoying her grandchildren, family and friends who meant so much to her. Jodie is survived by her children; Michelle Lynne Needy of Los Angeles, Jack Edward Needy (Lisa) of Ft. Collins, and Thomas Wayne Needy (Eleanor) of Boulder; her grandchildren: Kolby (son of Jack and Lisa Needy), Anna and Will (daughter and son of Thomas and Eleanor Needy). She was preceded in death by her husband, Jack Wayne Needy of Columbia, her daughter, Connie Ruth Needy and her brother, Thomas Nibley Edwards of Ft. Lauderdale.
