August 9, 1925 ~ June 28, 2006

Charles was born Aug. 9, 1925, in McDonald, Pennsylvania to Steven and Esther (Sipos) Horwath. He attended school in Hendersonville, Pa.

He served in the U.S. Army, Company 1, 60th Infantry Division during World War II from Nov. 29, 1943, to Aug. 20, 1945. He served in the European, African and Middle Eastern Theater and was awarded one Bronze Battle Star and Purple Heart.

After his discharge, he held several different jobs around the country until moving to Omaha in 1952. He worked for Mrs. Rose Blumkin when she opened the Nebraska Furniture Mart, also for Independent Metal, Freuhauf Trailer Co., now LBT Inc., Whiteline Transfer and then Northside Produce in Omaha for 30 years where he drove a truck. He moved to Fremont in 1969 and retired in 1987.

He married Betty Jane Bechtel on Aug. 9, 1957, in Papillion, Nebraska. They were blessed with five children.

Sadly, Betty Jane died March 7, 1994.

Charles "Chuck" Horwath died Wednesday, June 28, 2006, at his home in Fremont, Nebraska.

Left to cherish his memory are a son; four daughters; 13 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren and a great-great-granddaughter.

In addition to his wife, he was also preceded in death by a brother.

The funeral for Charles 'Chuck' Horwath, 80, of Fremont, Nebraska will be 10 a.m. Monday at Moser Memorial Chapel in Fremont, Nebraska.The Rev. Scott Jensen of Full Life Assembly of God Church will officiate Monday's service. Visitation will be from 2-8 p.m. Sunday and 9-10 a.m. Monday with the family receiving friends from 6-8 p.m. Sunday, all at the funeral home. Burial will be in Ridge Cemetery in Fremont with military graveside services conducted by the Fremont Honor Guard of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 854 and American Legion Post 20. The family requests that memorials in his name be given to Odyssey Healthcare Hospice.
