Dr Lionel Bernard Watkins Sr was born on February 11, 1877 in Davidson County, Tennessee, the son of Samuel Isaac Watkins (1848–1929) and Christa Anna (Stump) Watkins (1854–1926).

He was married 1st on September 28, 1902 in Nashville, Davidson County to Elizabeth Louise Miller (1880–1964). Lionel was married 2nd in 1930 as the 1st husband of Olivia Moore (Huffman) (Watkins) Kirby (1914–1987).

A physician living at 5012 Alabama Avenue in Nashville, Lionel was 71 years old and married when he died of cirrhosis of the liver at home on October 22, 1948.

Survivors included his widow Olivia, daughters Miss Ramona Watkins, Mrs Lovell N Smith, Mrs Phillis P Porch and Mrs Sarah Buchanan, sons Lionel Bernard Watkins Jr and G Miller Watkins, four grandchildren all in Nashville, sister Mrs D C Youngblood of Nashville, brothers S J Watkins at Goodlettsville, Tennessee and Chaplain Lieutenant Colonel C R Watkins at Brandenton, Florida.

Funeral Services were held on October 25th at Pettus & Owen Funeral Home, and burial was in Spring Hill Cemetery, Madison {city, not county}.
