He was a retired Sergeant Major from the U.S. Army serving three tours in Vietnam. Edward was a member of the VFW Post 2950 in Corydon, and the American Legion Post 204 in Sellersburg.
Along with his parents he was preceded in death by his sister, Lilly Mae Ayers Beachamp and his brother, Mitchell Ayers.
He is survived by brothers, Charles Ayers (Darlene), Wayne Ayers (Stephanie), and Douglas Ayers; sister, Barbara Ayers Thompson (Roger); sister-in-law, Barbara Ann Ayers; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be from 12 noon to 6 p.m. Sunday and after 10 a.m. Monday. His funeral service will take place at 11 a.m. Monday with burial and military honors to follow at Kraft-Graceland Memorial Park in New Albany
