Rev. Montie Howard Phillips, 93 years 4 months and 11 days of age, of Somerset, Kentucky, departed this life on Thursday, March 28th, 2019 at Hospice of Lake Cumberland Jean Waddle Care Center.

Bro. Montie was born on Tuesday, November 17th, 1925 in Cedar Hill community of Wayne County, Kentucky, son of the late Shird and May Ross Phillips. He was a former co-owner of Food Fair Grocery Chain and a retired contractor, developer and builder. Bro. Montie was of the Interdenominational faith and believed in the word of God and lived it. He was a retired pastor and minister and after his retirement, became an evangelist. He was also the founder of Gospel Tabernacle. He was an avid coon hunter and enjoyed horseback riding.

Bro. Montie was survived by his loving wife, Mary Alpha Girdler Phillips, whom he married on November 26th, 1949; one son, David (and Mary Lou) Phillips; one daughter, Karen Lamb; one brother, Luid (and Sylvia) Phillips; three grandchildren, David Wayne Phillips, Jarrod New, and Karenda Lamb; five great-grandchildren, Logan New, Blake Purvis, Jackson New, Kinsley New, and Callie New; and a host of other family and friends who mourn his passing.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Shird Phillips, who departed this life on March 7th, 1990 and May Phillips, who departed this life on September 23rd, 1967; one son, Mark Allen Phillips, who departed this life on April 20th, 2009; one brother, Bro. Starlin Franklin Phillips, who departed this life on May 12th, 1998; and two sisters, Adell Compton, who departed this life on April 1st, 2010 and Helen Jones.

Visitations were held from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. on Sunday, March 31st, 2019 at the Southern Oaks Funeral Home in Somerset, Kentucky.

Funeral services were held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, April 1st, 2019 in the Chapel of the Southern Oaks Funeral Home with Evangelist Ronald Vernatter officiating.

Burial followed in the West Cemetery in Somerset, Kentucky.
