According to the "History of Greene County" which was written by R.S. Dills and published in 1881:

Jacob and his wife Magdalena (Herring) Mitman were from
York County, Pennsylvania but later moved to Ohio.
One son, who is noteworthy in Greene County, is Peter, born February 12, 1810. Jacob "was a farrier, and removed to this state, in 1838, locating near Fairfield, where he spent the remainder of his life. They were parents of ten children."
