Mary, who was affectionately known as “Boboo,” was born Jan. 9, 1940, in Youngstown, a daughter of the late Edward and Mary Zagorsky Janis, and was a lifelong area resident.
Mary worked for Workinman’s Uniforms, Brentwood Originals, and for Bargain Port throughout her lifetime, all while raising and caring for her family.
Mrs. Byers was a lifelong member of St. Stanislaus Kostka Church in Youngstown.
Mary’s granddaughters were the highlight of her life and she cherished every moment she spent with them. She greatly enjoyed cooking and baking with her granddaughters, playing cards, spending time with her family, and she enjoyed attending all events her granddaughters were involved in.
Her husband of 48 years, Vernon L. Byers, whom she married July 2, 1960, passed away Aug. 18, 2008.
Mary leaves to cherish her memory her daughter, Cathy (Dave) Rodomsky of Girard; three granddaughters, Lauren Rodomsky (fiancé Chris Scheckelhoff), Caitlyn Rodomsky (fiancé Bill Seidler), and Nicole Rodomsky; five brothers and sisters, Edward (Ella) Janis of Breman, Ga.; George (Donna) Janis of Youngstown, Georgeann Foltz of Boardman, Barbara Burrows of Hubbard, and Gloria (Ralph) Sanchez of Mexico Beach, Fla.; and many nieces, nephews, and extended family members, including Don Foltz, whom she enjoyed spending time with.
She will be truly and sadly missed by all who knew and loved her.
Besides her husband, a sister, Virginia Boehnline, and a brother, Richard Janis, preceded her in death.
Family and friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. on Friday, March 29, at Kinnick Funeral Home, 222 S. State St., Girard.
Funeral services will begin on Saturday, March 30, at 10:15 a.m. at the funeral home, and will continue with a Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated at 11 a.m. at St. Stanislaus Kostka Church, 430 Williamson Ave., Youngstown.
Interment will follow at Calvary Cemetery in Youngstown, where Mary will be laid to rest next to her husband.
Mary’s family would like to extend thanks and gratitude to Dr. Zeina El Amil, Dr. Ashlee Russo, and to the entire medical intensive care staff at St. Elizabeth Hospital, for the kindness shown and care given to Mary and her family throughout her illness.
