Mr. Abern was a retired firearms inspector for the Remington Arms Company. During W.W. II he served in the Navy and was aboard the USS Missouri.
Surviving besides his wife, are two daughters, Mrs. Richard (Mary) Hegeman and Mrs. John (Carol) Chase both of Herkimer; three sons, Robert of Mexico City, Mexico, John and Joseph both of Herkimer; also eight grandchildren and one brother, Edward Ahern of Mohawk.
Funeral services will be Monday at 9 a.m. from the Burns-Richer Funeral Home, 417 Henry Streetr and 9:30 from St. Francis DeSales Church. Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery, Herkimer
