David was born August 30, 1947 in Pleasantville, Iowa to Charles and Elizabeth "Faye" (Beakler) Caffrey. After living in Pleasantville, Winterset, Des Moines and Ottumwa, he graduated from Iowa State University in 1969. One of David's dreams was to own his own company and in 1992 he opened a branch of Washington Equipment Co. (Peoria) in Des Moines. In 1996 he purchased that branch and renamed it Material Handling Innovations. He loved flying, rebuilding old radios, toys and trying to fix anything that was broken, especially his grandchildren's toys.
Left to cherish his memory are his wife of forty years, Marsha, mother Faye, sons; Ryan (Kris) and Matthew (Stephanie), grandchildren; Sean, Ian, Caitlin and Arthur, brother Phil (Karla), sisters; Diane (Brian) Arends and Donna (Wade) Lange, twelve nieces and nephews, and thirteen great nieces and nephews. Welcoming him in Heaven are his son, Joseph David Caffrey, his father Charles and his brother Douglas who preceded him in death.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to OLIH or the American Lung Association.
