Minnie Tompkins Hevner was born in Mountainville, NY, the 5th of 8 children born to John P Tompkins and Mary Alice Miller. At age 19 on 23 Mar 1909 she had a brief marriage to John Henry McDonnell of Port Jervis, a trainman born in Pittston, PA. (A surprise to us). She then married Elmer Isiah Hevner in Detroit on 23 March 1909. They then moved to Cleveland, Ohio, where she gave birth to 3 children: Harvey Isiah (1914), Florence Roberta (1917) and Walter Raymond "Ray" (1923). Sadly, Florence passed away at age 6 due to a Matastisized Tumor on her right kidney. Only 29 days following the death of Florence, Minnie gave birth to Ray - a tricky birth at home as she refused to trust doctors. Ray's wife Ginnie said "Minnie adored her children and anxiously awaited grandchildren, but missed meeting Carolynda (Lindie) by just 7 months.
