Obituary
Jerry "Chip" Carter
1949 - 2018
July 5, 1949 - April 17, 2018 Vallejo Jerry "Chip" Carter peacefully passed away Tuesday, April 17, after a brief illness. Chip was the owner and operator of North Bay Cabinets in Vallejo for 40 years. He was well known in the Vallejo community, and was a member of several local service organizations and groups such as; the Vallejo Executive Lions Club, Native Sons of the Golden West, Junior Chamber of Commerce International Senate, and the Hogan Alumni Class of '67. Chip was also one of the founding members of the well-known car club, "Boyz Under the Hood". Born on July 5, 1949 in San Luis Obispo, Chip and his family moved to Vallejo when he was eight. He attended Steffan Manor Elementary, was in the first ninth grade class to graduate from Springstowne Jr High and was in the first graduating class from Hogan High, class of '67. Chip was a true "Vallejo Kid"! Along with his career in the cabinet business, Chip worked close to 30 years at Mare Island Naval Shipyard as a Pipefitter, retiring when the shipyard closed in 1996. Chip, also the family historian, spent countless hours researching archives, traveling to visit cemeteries and utilizing every tool he could to learn more about his ancestry. If you knew Chip, you knew he was always on the go. He worked Monday through Saturday (always making time for the Friday lunch club, and Saturday breakfast) and worked in the backyard at home on Sundays. He even worked while on vacation at the family cabin. He was a perfectionist and insisted on a job well done. He had a unique sense of humor, which caught many people off guard at first, but more often than not, he ended up being your friend and making you laugh. Chip was preceded in death by his beloved son, Sgt. Brian Carter, and his father, Jerold Wayne Carter. Chip is survived by Kim, his loving wife of 27 years; stepson, Josh (Megan) Sawyer; stepdaughter, Gill (Charleto) Valenzuela; daughter-in-law, Tiana Carter; grandsons, Kekoa, Peyton, Jeramiah, Preston and Jaxon; granddaughters, Juliana and Kayliana; mother, Roberta Armsbury; uncle, Dan Baker; brothers, Steve Carter, Tom (Jamie) Carter, and Mole Wertz; sisters, Diane (Bob) Karn and Linda (John) Phych; as well as numerous cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends. Chip will surely be missed by his family, friends and the local Vallejo community.
