Charles W. Rogers Jr., 81, Columbus, died at 5:55 p.m. Monday, Aug. 12, 1996, at a local nursing home after an illness.

Mr. Rogers was born Feb. 27, 1915, at Hallowell. He attended schools in Columbus. He worked as a pipe fitter in California and other states before retiring in 1964. He was a Navy veteran of World War II and was on board a ship at Pearl Harbor when it was attacked on Dec. 7, 1941. He was a member of Sherwin Christian Church, Sherwin. He was a member of American Legion Post No. 3, Columbus, Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 1372, Columbus, and the Pipe-Fitters Union Local 389, Los Angeles.

He married Ruth Rhyne in 1934. She died in 1939. Survivors include a son, Bobbie Rogers, Columbus; a daughter, Mary Ann Osborne, state of California; two sisters, Hazel Freeman Graham, Columbus, and Ida Sampica, Parsons; five grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and four great-step-grandchildren.

Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at the Edgmand Cemetery, northwest of Columbus, with the Rev. Dennis Johnson officiating. Military rites will be conducted by the American Legion Post No. 3, Columbus. The family will receive friends from 7 to 8 p.m. today at Murdock Funeral Home, Columbus. Contributions may be made to Sherwin Christian Church or Oswego Hospice, in care of the funeral home.
