Chet and I got acquainted when I lived in Livingston, MT 1998-2002. He lived south of the Smith ranch in Paradise Valley, and related to me that he had seen both Smith fires - Foster's house that he built in the 1930s, and a few years later the big red barn. The second one, he reported, I believe, with an early morning phone call.
Chet was an interesting, intelligent guy; I always enjoyed our conversations, and was sorry to see him go in 2001.
His parents were Clarence B. Allen and Gussie C. Nelson Allen, both Montana natives. Chet married Irene May Rife on 20 May 1946 at her grandparents' home in Electric, Montana. Her parents were Ernest A. and Sibyl Vink Rife, and her grandparents were Frank and Bartha Wagner Rife. Irene and Chet have one daughter, Judy Ann who married Don Sessing.
