New Matamoras, OH - Cecil Emmett “Doc" Baker, 77, died Thursday, July 28, 1988 at a Parkersburg care center following a long illness. Mr. Baker was a barber for 50 years, a member of the Gassaway Methodist Church, Gassaway Masonic Lodge No. 133, Osiris Shrine Temple No. 586 in Wheeling, and the Lions Club of New Matamoras.

Born in Glenville, he was the son of the late Albert Harrison Baker (1877-1959) and Annie May Yerkey-Baker (1878-1970). He was previously married to Ethel Pauline Davis-Baker (1912-1959) on November 29, 1933 in Glenville, Gilmer County, WV (per WV Marriage License Register, Gilmer County, WV, 1933, Page 32, Application Date: November 29, 1933). He was also married to Nancy Ann Pernell-Baker (B. 1933) on September 4, 1965 in Weirton, Hancock County, WV (per WV Marriage License Register, Hancock County, WV, 1965, Page 291, Application Date: August 30, 1965). This marriage ended in divorce.

Survivors include his wife, Elwanda Riggs-Baker; a daughter, Rosalee Baker-Nutter of Charleston; two stepdaughters, Loretta Riggs-Cline and Sandra Riggs-Bleakly, both of New Matamoras; a stepson, Dallas "Butch" Riggs of New Matamoras; four sisters, Rhoda Baker-Ellis of Columbus, OH, Floda L. Baker-Davis (1907-1999) of Glenville, and Cora May Baker-Barker (1905-1997) and Ora G. Baker-Means (1905-1995), both of Sebring, FL; two brothers, Waitman "Wirt" Earnie Baker (1921-1977) of St. Petersburg, FL, and Lester Clyde Baker (1916-2007) of Glenville; one granddaughter; eleven stepgrandchildren; and two stepgreat-grandsons.

His body has been donated to West Virginia University Medical Center. Memorial services will be Sunday at 2:30 pm. at the United Methodist Church in New Metamoras. Any donations of sympathy may be made to the Doc Baker Memorial Fund, Peoples Savings Bank, New Matamoras, OH 45767
