Anna M. Leonard (Annie), 98, passed away peacefully March 12, 2019 at home. Born in Cranford, she was a long-time resident of Garwood.
Friends and relatives are invited to visit Sunday, March 17, 3-7 pm at the Dooley Funeral Home, 218 North Ave. West in Cranford. A Mass of Christian Burial will be Monday, March 18, 10:30 am at St. Michael’s Church in Cranford. Interment in St. Gertrude Cemetery, Colonia.
Known as “Mrs. Garwood”, she was often referred to as the ambassador of Garwood, having served as a community organizer of the town. She was an honorary lifetime member of the Garwood Volunteer Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary, The Cranford V.F.W Auxiliary post 335, as well as the NJ Congress of Parents and Teachers. She won a Woman of Excellence Award for Union County in 2007. She was very active in volunteer work, especially with Girl Scouts, Garwood Recycling Program, Garwood First Aid Squad, and the Garwood Celebrations Committee. Born within the “Greatest Generation”, She loved her country, especially the town of Garwood.
She was predeceased by her husband Judge James T. Leonard Sr.; and her daughter Patricia Olenick.
Surviving are her devoted children, James T. Leonard Jr., Mary Jane Leonard-DeHanes (Ken), and Susan Leonard; 8 loving grandchildren and 12 beloved great-grandchildren.
