Born on January 5, 1939, in Defiance, Ohio, Robert was the son of the late Meldan and Gladys (Shaffer) Arend.
Robert was a 1957 graduate of Defiance High School. He served in the United States Army from 1957 to 1960.
On October 1, 1966, he was united in marriage to Phyllis Herman and she preceded him in death on February 18, 2005.
Robert worked as a computer programmer for International Harvester for Ft. Wayne for 23 years and retired from Lincoln National Corporation after 15 years.
Robert was a member of St. Michael Catholic Church and active in the Right to Life Organization.
Robert is survived by his sons, Matthew Robert (Kristi), Mark Joseph (Allison); daughters, Andrea T. Seibert, Dr. Rita A. (Brian) Rohrs, Laura M. (Michael) Haverkamp; fifteen grandchildren; sisters, Shirley Sholl, Mary Batt, and Ruth Ann Coressel.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Richard, and a sister, Alice Quint.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday at 10:30 a.m. at St. Michael Catholic Church, Hicksville. Visitation will be at Smith & Brown Funeral Home on Friday from 3:00 until 7:00 with a Rosary service at 7:00. Burial will be in St. Marys Cemetery following the Mass.
Memorials may be made to a charity of the donor's choice.
