James Cash "Jay" Abston, 92, of Kokomo passed away at 6:25 PM Friday January 18, 2019 at Century Villa Healthcare, Greentown. Born November 11, 1926 in Albany, Kentucky, he was the son of the late Henry Abston and Ella (Cash) Abston. On June 12, 1954 in Kokomo, he married Chris (Cross). She preceded him in death in 2005. He was employed with Haynes Stellite as a furnace operator, retiring after 30 years of service. He loved gardening and sold cantaloupe and melon. He also enjoyed sitting on the porch and waving to people as they drove by.

Survivors include one daughter Corene Chittum of Kokomo; one sister Ann Vincent of Greentown; one grandson Tim Thompson of Independence, Missouri; two great grandchildren Luke Brown and Catheryn Gonzalez of Kokomo; two great great grandchildren Nathan and Kaydance Gonzalez of Kokomo.

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, two brothers Otis Abston and Ervin Abston; four sisters Eva Main, Texie Riddle, Nell Hulleston, and Lola Neal.

Funeral services will be 1:00 PM Thursday January 24, 2019 at Ellers Mortuary Main Street chapel, 725 South Main Street, Kokomo. Pastor David Osborne will officiate. Burial will follow at Kokomo Memorial Park.
