George Rohbock
1916-2007
George Rohbock, a not-so-ordinary, ordinary man, passed away at home on June 1, 2007. George, our loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, friend, and mentor, was born in 1916 to Carl Ernest Rohbock and Anna Bargaehr Rohbock. He lived his early years in Salt Lake City and American Fork, then moved to Orem where he resided the remainder of his days. He married Ruth May Foster in 1947 in the Salt Lake City Temple.
George and Ruth are the parents of Joyce Rachlin, Nancy (Edward) Denney, George (Conna) Rohbock, Carl (Pamela) Rohbock, Mary (Craig) Rees, and Donald (Donna) Rohbock. After Ruth's death in 1999, George married Lois McClellan Kenworthy, his loving and devoted spouse until his passing, becoming a friend and second father, grandfather and great-grandfather to Lois' family.
Although his formal education was limited, he learned that one could have a good life and contribute to society through a sense of humanity and a strong work ethic. Prior to World War II, he worked in the Civil Conservation Corps, was a landscape architect and a proprietor of a seed and nursery business. During the war, he served in the US Army and was a POW in the European Theatre. After the war, he returned to the family business, which evolved into Rohbock Sons and Provo Floral. He loved flowers and gardens and became a true artist in his floral and landscape creations. Once retired, George and Ruth served in The LDS Florida, Tampa Bay Mission.
George devoted his life to God, country and family. His experiences taught him not everything in life is a "hayride," but there are purposes and lessons in all of life's challenges. Because he recognized the value in each individual, he worked diligently to serve his God through kindness and appreciation of his fellowmen. He put flowers on tables and groomed gardens of countless individuals without any expectation of return. At the end of life, though his body became weak and feeble, his desire to serve remained strong. No opportunity to serve was insignificant to him. George believed he had a life's mission to fulfill and God would prolong his days until it was accomplished. George came, saw, learned, grew, and served.
George leaves behind his wife Lois, his children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and sisters Louise (John) Adams and Marie (Delmar) Davis, many nieces, nephews, and friends. George was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Ruth, his siblings Charles "Chick", Anton "Tony", William, Frank, Helen Mitchell, Annie Ivers, Robert, John, and his son-in-law, Elliot Rachlin.
Family and friends may call at Berg Mortuary, 185 East Center Street, Provo on Wednesday, June 6th from 6:00 Ð 8:00 p.m. as well as on June 7th from 10:30 Ð 11:30 a.m. at Lakeridge 4th Ward Chapel, 1100 South 200 East, Orem. Funeral services will be held on June 7th at 11:30 a.m. at the Lakeridge 4th Ward Chapel. Interment will follow in the Orem City Cemetery.
Those who knew George will never forget his kindness, integrity, and loving heart.
