He worked 21 years at the Rock Island Arsenal, retiring in 1971 as a welder.
He married Kathryn E. Shaner in 1934 in Peoria. She died in 1984.
He was a World War II Army veteran and a member of the Silvis United Methodist Church.
Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society.
Survivors include his sons, Lindel, Ozark, Mo.; and Lawrence, Geneseo; eight grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; sisters, Mary Arthur, Colorado Springs, Colo.; Ila Algren, Galesburg; Gladys Stegall, Burlington, Iowa; June Danner, Galesburg; and Anne Hughes, Anaheim, Calif.; and brothers, Vernon, Rock Island; Bill, East Moline; David and Eddie, both of Milan.
