Gene was the son of John and Cora Thompson Arnold. He was a self employed electrician. He and his wife, Bette (Chapin) had been married 52 years. Gene was baptized in the Grand River when he was 16. He was a member of the Golden Gate Baptist Church. He loved to be out among nature, fishing, walking the lake with his dogs, and hunting arrowheads. He was the first one to spot an "Osprey" hawk in Henry County. Gene was a regular at the Coffee Club at Square 109 Restaurant.

Gene was preceded in death by his parents John and Cora, and daughter, Debra Gideon.

Survivors include his wife Bette; daughter Donita Arnold of Nixa; son-in-law Frank Gideon of Nixa; and a brother John W. (Virginia) Arnold of Independence; grandchildren, Mason and Megan Gideon, and Alex Arnold.
