Robert J. Cline died Friday March 8, 2019. He was a native of Osgood, Indiana and a 1944 graduate of Osgood High School serving in the Army Air Corps during World War II. Following discharge from the Armed Forces, he entered Indiana University and was graduated with two degrees; and in 1999 honored by IU as a member of its Distinguished Alumni Class. He was a life member of the Indiana University Alumni Association.
He joined the Indiana State Police in January of 1948 and rose to the rank of Colonel, serving each rank from Trooper to Assistant Superintendent. His Indiana State Police life covered 34 years and was his passion.
Robert was a graduate of the FBI National Academy and a member of the FBI National Academy Associates for 47 years. He later served as Criminal Investigation Director for the Indiana Department of Environmental Management and Chief of the Hanover College Security Police.
Robert Cline married Rita Holzer, March 18, 1948, at the Methodist Parsonage on Madison's West Main Street, The Rev. Frank Templin officiating. Their marriage lasted sixty-two and one half years before Rita's passing in November of 2010, They have one daughter, Amanda Marie.
His parents Arley and Emily Cline preceded him in death, and he is survived by his daughter Amanda Ferris of Greenfield, a granddaughter Heather Guntrum of Carmel, two great grandchildren, Ethan Robert and Eva Marie Guntrum; plus sister Florence, nephew Michael Haberer, and niece Sarah Jane West, living in Texas.
Robert was a life member of the National Model Railroad Association and a life-long member of the National Rifle Association. He is Past Master of the Brookville, Indiana Masonic Lodge.
His retirement fervor was web master for a site titled "Madison Came Running" where he featured Historic Madison to the internet-public.
Memorial services will be held at 1:30 PM,Sunday March 17 at the Madison Presbyterian Church with burial at Greendale Cemetery in Osgood, Indiana next to his wife, Rita. Robert Cline was 92.
