Mother of Late Dewey Nelson Dies At Oxford
Mrs. Modene Vanderipe, 81, of Oxford, mother of the late Dewey Nelson of Remington, died unexpectedly of a heart attack at her home and her body was discovered by neighbors Thursday afternoon. Her death is believed to have occurred about 24 hours earlier.
Born in Scott county, she lived in Oxford 20 years. She was married first in 1898 to Hubert Nelson who died in 1937, and in 1948 to J. B. Vanderipe who died Sept. 21, 1959. Her son Dewey Nelson died March 19, 1959. Mrs. Vanderipe was a member of
the Methodist church, Order of Eastern Star and Rebekahs.
Surviving are four grandchildren, Russell Nelson and Mrs. Harold (Dorothy) Butcher of Lafayette, Robert Nelson and Mrs. Don (Marjorie) Dalrymple of Remington; seven great-grandchildren; and a daughter-in-law, Mrs. Dewey (Naomi) Nelson, Remington.
Last rites were held at 2 p.m. Sunday at the Shipps Funeral home.
