Mary was born on July 2, 1940 in Covington, TN to John and Julia Ann (Sommerville) Boddie. She married the love of her life of 54 years, Donelly Morgan, on December 20, 1964 in Peoria and to their union two sons were born, Derrick and David.
Mary was an academic scholar graduating in 1958 from Peoria Central High School with honors. She continued her education graduating from Browns Business School; now known as Midstate College; Illinois Central College and later receiving her license as Surgical Technician from OSF St. Francis Medical Center, College of Nursing. Mary was a past President of the local chapter of the Association of Surgical Technologists. She worked at OSF St. Francis Medical Center for over 34 years retiring in 2004.
Mary was a well-known Gospel singer in Peoria. She was a faithful member of Holy Temple C.O.G.I.C. where she was a Sunday school teacher, pianist, choir director and member. Mary was a devoted and loving wife, mother and sister that with all her endeavors and responsibilities also found time to volunteer at a correctional institution outside the Peoria area helping others. Mary loved collecting coins, crocheting and solving crossword puzzles.
Mary leaves to cherish her most precious memory her husband; Donelly Morgan of Peoria; two sons, Derrick (Regina) Morgan and David Morgan of Peoria; five brothers, James (Deanna) Boddie of Bonita Springs, FL, Charles (Tina) Boddie of Columbus, IN, Michael (Kathy) Boddie of Peoria, Oscar Boddie of Quincy, IL and Kenneth Boddie of Peoria; four sisters, Julia (Benjamin) Duncan of Fairburn, GA, Barbara Boddie of Duncanville, TX, Brenda Anderson and Carolyn Boddie both of Peoria; 4 grandchildren, Deniesha Morgan, Krys Brown, Jonathan Morgan and Kandice Jackson; 2 great grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. She is preceded in death by her parents; maternal grandmother, Mary Boyd; one brother, Billy Boddie, one sister, Lillie (Boddie) Lee and one niece, Kimberly (Lee) Williams.
Funeral services will be held at 10 am on Saturday, March 16, 2019 at Word of Faith Christian Center with a visitation beginning at 9 am. Host Pastor, Bishop Leroy Davis will officiate and Elder F. Michael Watson will bring forth the eulogy. Mary will be laid to rest at Parkview Cemetery.
