Thomas Gosney was born in 1849/1850 in Clark County, Kentucky. He is shown with his parents in the 1860 Clay County, Missouri, census. He could not be found in the 1870 census. He is shown in the 1880 Clay County, Missouri, census with his wife, Rosamond, and his children, Luther B. and Pearl Gosney. Thomas Gosney's wife is shown as a widow in the 1900 Clay County, Missouri, census, and he cannot be found in the 1900 and 1910 censuses. Hence it is believed that Thomas died before 1900, probably in Clay County, Missouri. However, records dealing with his estate could not be found in the Clay County probate files. Thomas Gosney administered his father-in-law's (Joseph C Goodwin) estate, and he was alive when this was concluded on 31 Aug 1893.
Thomas Gosney married Rosamond Goodwin circa 1871. She was the only child of Joseph and Rosanna Goodwin. Her mother most likely died before 1853, and she was raised by the Johns(t)on family. She is shown with them in the 1860 and 1870 Clay County, Missouri, censuses.
Thomas served in the 3rd Colorado Cavalry, and hence most likely participated in the Indian massacre at Sand Creek, Colorado, on 29 Nov 1864. His father also served in this Regiment.
