From the Clarion-Ledger, Jackson, Miss., June 22, 1903, p. 5:

Mrs. Irene M. Johnson, wife of J. Hunter Johnson, died Saturday afternoon at 3 o’clock. Mrs. Johnson had been sick for several weeks with typhoid fever, and although she had the best of medical attention and loving friends and relatives ministered to her every want and need, the ravages of the disease were too much for her frail body and Saturday evening she passed peacefully away. The funeral services were conducted Sunday evening at 4 o’clock from the First Presbyterian church, at which place a number of friends and relatives had gathered to pay the last sad tribute to this good woman. Dr. J. B. Hutton conducted the funeral ceremonies and consoled the weeping loved ones, saying that this was not death but merely a departure, a temporary separation and that by living a life of consecration they would meet again in heaven never to be parted.

Mrs. Johnson was about 30 years old. She moved here from Kosciusko several years ago and has since made this her home. She was a good Christian woman and was loved, respected and esteemed by all who knew her, for her many noble deeds and unselfish spirit. The following acted as pall bearers: Messrs. H. Spengler, P. Lemly, Ed. Peatross, A. Stovall, R. M. Hederman, T. M. Hederman.
