Eliza was the daughter of John Sallard Glascock b 1788 GA, and Elizabeth Simpkins b 1795. She married 1) Judge Thomas Sumter Mays in Alabama.

MRS. H. W. HILLIARD DEAD.
The Wife of Hon. Henry W. Hilliard Passes Away.
Atlanta, Dec. 24. - [Special.] - The funeral of Mrs. Eliza Glascock Hilliard, the wife of Ex-Minister Henry W. Hilliard, occurred at 11 o'clock today from the First Methodist church, and was largely attended. Mrs. Hilliard died yesterday at her residence on Peachtree Street. Dr. H. C. Morris on officiated at the funeral, and the remains were buried in Oakland cemetery.

Mrs. Hilliard was a native of Edgefield district, South Carolina, and came of a distinguished race, her ancestors having been notable men and women for generations. She was the daughter of Gen. John Glascock of South Carolina and niece of Gen. Thomas Glascock, of this state. In early life she moved to Alabama and married Judge Thomas Sumter Mays, also of an old and prominent South Carolina family. Some years after Judge May's death she married Hon. H. W. Hilliard, and had resided in Georgia since that time. Mrs. Hilliard was a very remarkable woman, highly intellectual, splendidly educated, a brilliant conversationalist and one of the most thoroughly informed women of her day.

Mrs. Hilliard leaves five children: Mrs. Geo. C. Ball of Birmingham, Al a; Mr. J. Glascock Mays of Augusta, Ga.; Mr. Pierce Butler Mays of Florid a; Mrs. R. T. Dow and Mrs. E. C. Spalding of Atlanta. Six years ago her son, Hon. S. Warren Mays, died, and from that sorrow she never entirely rallied, but led ever afterwards a retired life, devoting herself to her family and her church.
