Mary Annie Miller was born in Catawba County, North Carolina on November 24, 1929. The second of four children born to Loy Theodore & Annie Mae Raby Miller. The first few years of Mary's life were spent in Catawba County. By 1937, the Miller family is living in Greensboro, North Carolina. They remained in Greensboro until the early 1940's and then moved to Savannah, Georgia, where Loy began working.

Mary's father got maleria while working in Georgia and the family moved back to Catawba County in the 1940's. In June of 1948, Mary graduated from St. Stephens High School in Hickory. In the late 1940's, Loy and the family were going to move around like gypsies, however, Annie got sick so the family stayed in Catawba County, North Carolina.

On October 16, 1948, Mary married the love of her life, Wyatt Smith Fowler in Catawba County. According to the 1949-1950 Hickory city directory, Wyatt and Mary lived in Hickory and Wyatt is working as a cashier. In July of 1950, Wyatt bought some land adjoining the lands of his parents in Granite Falls for ten dollars. He soon built a home for himself and Mary. On August 25, 1951, Mary gave birth to a stillborn son, who they named after their fathers, Donald Loy Fowler.

In 1953, Mary gave birth to a daughter, Deborah Ann and two more children followed; Wyatt Smith, Jr. in 1955 and Polly Diane in 1957. In the mid 1950's, Mary's father-in-law, Donel suffered some health issues and in 1956, Wyatt and Mary switched their one story home for his parents two-story farmhouse.

Mary and Wyatt were happily raising their family and enjoying their lives together until tragedy struck. On November 11, 1961, while on his way to a neighbors house, Wyatt was killed when his tractor rolled over on him. According to her aunt-in-law, Della Fowler, Della went to see Mary shortly after Wyatt was killed and Mary was so upset that she was tossing papers into the fireplace and Della realized that Mary was accidentally throwing money into the fire and had to stop her from throwing anything else into the fireplace.

After the death of Wyatt, Mary went to work in the cafeteria of Granite Falls Elementary School. At some point in 1963 or 1964, Mary met Jess Millard Caudle, Jr., a widower with two children of his own. Mary and Millard married on August 29, 1965 in Caldwell County.

After her marriage to Millard, the family moved to Millard's house in Hudson. They lived their for a short time and eventually moved back to the farmhouse and then eventually sold the farmhouse in November of 1967.

On November 28, 1967, Mary and Millard bought land in Lakemont Park in the Bethlehem Community of Alexander County. They would live in the house in Lakemont Park until they sold it in September of 1971. It was while living here in Jan. of 1971, when Mary gave birth to daughter, Patricia Marie.

Mary and Millard then lived on the Lake for a short period of time. They then moved to an Apartment in Hickory and lived here until they moved to another house in Hickory. In the early to late 1980's, Mary & Millard moved in with Mary's parents, Loy & Annie Miller. They lived there for a time and eventually moved into another house. They eventually moved into a trailor at Paradise Valley Mobile Home Park in Hickory.

Millard passed away on April 24, 1997, after a battle with cancer. Mary remained a widow until she passed away on December 12, 1998, from a heart attack after a battle with cancer.
