Alvin (Al Red) Berg

Born in 1920 to Andrew A. and Carrie Berg in Dell Rapids, SD.

Passed away peacefully June 13, 2015 in Seattle, WA.

Preceded in death by devoted wife Blanche, family members and friends. He is survived by a loving family, daughter Lana, son Andrew, grandchildren Corey, Christopher and Danielle Berg, brother Donald and many relatives in South Dakota. Al was a veteran of World War II, serving 4 years that included 2 years in the European Theater, arriving in France shortly after D Day and fought across Europe with the 644th Tank Destroyers, participating in 5 major battles, including the Battle of the Bulge. While serving, he received a battlefield commission and several medals. Shortly before his passing he received the French Legion of Honor.

Al moved to Seattle in 1946 where he met and married his wife Blanche in 1947. He worked in the finance field beginning with Seattle Branch, Federal Reserve Bank for 22 years and with the Washington State Division of banking for 20 years. Retirement included travel with Blanche, volunteering at the VA Hospital and the Seattle-King County Convention Visitors Center.

At his request there will be no service. In lieu of flowers, remembrances may be made to the charity of your choice. Interment at Washington Memorial Cemetery.
