Mrs. Julia E. Hepworth, formerly of Cassopolis died Wednesday evening, March 12, in Ann Arbor, where she had lived for several years past. Funeral services were held in Ann Arbor and the body was brought to Edwardsburg for burial beside her first husband.
Julia E. Gard was a daughter of the late Newton and Nancy (Shaw) Gard and was born in Volinia Township Sept. 18, 1852. She grew to young womanhood there and was married Oct. 1, 1876 to Roderick L. Van Ness of Howard Township, later treasurer of Cass County. They became the parents of two children, Newton Gard Van Ness, who died last year and Arietta, wife Lewis Christman of Ann Arbor. Her first husband having died, she was married December 25, 1904 to Henry C. Hepworth of Burlingame, Kansas, where they resided until his death, after which she returned to Michigan. She is survived by the daughter above named and by five grandchildren.
