Born in rural S.C., oldest male of 4 siblings, both parents had died before his 19th birthday. The siblings, with the aid of both sets of grandparents stayed together. My Dad finished 8th grade but made sure his 3 younger siblings graduated college. He worked construction in SC at age 16. In 1943 graduated US Maritime Service Training. Transferred to US Coast Guard during WW 2, escorting tankers to and from Europe, Africa, US. Honorably Discharged and resumed post duties as a Merchant Marine in NY. He was active in his church - past president Holy Name Society and past Grand Knight of the Knights of Columbus

Siblings: Emma Belle, Marion Paul, Annie Pauline and William Edwin
Spouse: Married Jane Frances Hicks in Newark, NJ in 1944
Children: Patricia Ann, Kathleen Louise, Mary Frances, Jane Pauline, James Lamar and Charles Keith
Per his wishes, my Dad was not buried. This is my Memorial to him
