Billy was born in Indian Valley, Virginia on July 26, 1945 to the late Cecil Clifford Quesenberry and the late Dovie Francis Gallimore Quesenberry. He attended school in Floyd, Virginia, graduating from Floyd County High School in 1964. Billy was a genuine Hokie, graduating in 1968 from Virginia Polytechnic Institute, now Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University (Virginia Tech), with a Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering. He strived in all areas of his life to live the Virginia Tech motto Ut Prosim / “That I May Serve.” Billy was an electrical engineer for Kaiser Aluminum in Parkersburg, West Virginia for over 15 years. He moved to Muscle Shoals, Alabama in 1988 to work for Reynolds Metals Company as an electrical engineer, and he continued to work in different capacities for the successive owners of that facility until his passing.
Billy had a positive impact on many people, especially fellow members of the First United Methodist Church of Sheffield, members of the Shoals Emmaus Cluster, and co-workers at Reynolds Metals Company, Wise Metals Company, and Constellium. He was especially thankful for the opportunity to serve as General Manager of Alabama Electric Motors Services, later Flanders Electric Motor Services. Billy was able to influence those who served alongside him in the workplace and in other organizations by example through his strong work ethic and his on-going belief in the abilities of others.
While his work was important to Billy, he was also a man of many interests and pastimes. Through the years, he especially enjoyed gardening, tending to special pets, Hokie football, golfing, fishing, and traveling with family. For the past 17 years, he and Brenda have delighted in the joy and beauty of watching Sawyer and Ella grow up. Billy loved time spent in Floyd, Virginia with Brenda, when they could visit the family, and experience old-time and bluegrass music, particularly at the Floyd General Store.
Because Billy has family in Virginia and Alabama, there will be two memorial services to celebrate Billy’s life. A memorial service celebrating Billy’s life was held at Bethesda House of Mercy, 208 Howard Street, Floyd, Virginia on Saturday, March 2, 2019, at 1 o’clock p.m., Eddie Dale Gallimore officiating. Visitation will be from noon to 2 p.m. on Saturday, March 16th at First United Methodist Church of Sheffield. A memorial service to celebrate Billy’s life will follow at 2 p.m. at the church with Reverend Bart Bowling and Reverend Bill Bedsole officiating.
To honor his memory, memorial donations may be made to the First United Methodist Church of Sheffield Youth Fund or Children’s Fund, 701 North Montgomery Avenue, Sheffield, Alabama, 35660 or Shoals Emmaus Cluster, P.O. Box 432, Florence, Alabama 35631.
Brenda expresses special thanks to Helen Keller Hospital ICU and all the Doctors, especially Lynn Ridgeway, who went above and beyond to care for Billy, Northwest Alabama Cancer Center who has been like family for more than three years, and Bethesda Cancer Center.
Billy’s cancer is dead, but Billy lives forever with Jesus.
