CONNELLY SPRINGS Mrs. Mary Colleen Berry Knox, 89, of Connelly Springs, went to be with her heavenly Father Monday, Feb. 11, 2019, at Burke Hospice and Palliative Care, following a short period of declining health. Colleen was born Feb. 22, 1929, in Burke County, to the late Teddy R. Berry and Floy Bell Smith Berry. She was a charter member of Icard Church of God and attended for many years; and recently attended Freshfire Church with her daughter. Colleen was blessed with loving churches and church families. She loved sewing and gardening, but most of all she loved spending time with her family and her grandsons. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by husbands, Joe Billy Knox and Clyde Starnes; sister, Hylan Rollins; brother, Bobby Berry; niece, Jan Beach; and brothers-in-law, Lloyd Beach and the Rev. Lathan Rollins. She is survived by her daughter, Candy Lazenby and husband, Michael; grandsons, Jeffrey Lazenby and Bryan Lazenby; sisters, Juanita Beach and Kaye Berry; niece, Beth B. Bailey and fiancé, Dr. Emery "Pete" Johnston; and numerous other nieces and nephews. A funeral service will be held Friday, Feb. 15, at 1 p.m., at Freshfire Church in Hildebran, with the Rev. Sam Crowe officiating. Interment will follow at Catawba Memorial Park. The family will receive friends at the church from 12 to 1 p.m., prior to the service.
