HICKORY Martha Moretz Simpson, 79, of Hickory, passed away peacefully at Carolina Caring Hospice, Tuesday, Feb. 12, 2019, with her loving niece Jodi Moretz Jonas by her side. Born in Catawba County, Sept. 15, 1939, she was the daughter of the late Alonzo Taylor and Clorette Sigmon Moretz. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, James Olin Simpson, and her son, James Bradley Simpson. She is survived by her daughter-in-law, Allison Simpson and granddaughter, Meredith Simpson, both of Rancho Cucamonga, Calif.; sister, Brenda Finley of San Clemente, Calif.; brothers, Thomas Moretz of Linville Falls, and Terry Moretz (Crystal) of Vale; half brother, Taylor Moretz of Loganville, Ga.; and a number of nieces and nephews and great-nieces and -nephews. The family will receive friends Saturday, Feb. 16, from 2:45 to 3:45 p.m., at Zion Lutheran Church. The funeral service will follow at 4 p.m. with the Rev. David Drysdale officiating. Burial will follow in church cemetery. Memorial gifts may be made to Zion Lutheran Church Cemetery memorial fund, 1911 Zion Church Rd., Hickory, NC 28602.
