Robert Leon Baham, 79, of Barra De Navidad, Mexico passed away Saturday at the VA Hospital in Martinez following a long illness.

A native of Vallejo, Robert was a resident of Barra De Navidad for 25 years. He graduated from Vallejo High School in 1944 where he played football and basketball.

Robert served with the United States Army during WWII from 1944-1947 and received his honorable discharge as a 2nd Lt. He furthered his education at UC Berkeley where he was a member of the football team that played in the 1951 Rose Bowl against Michigan.

Mr. Baham worked as a group counselor for the California Youth Authority. He started and ran the first book exchange in Barra, Mexico and he also enjoyed playing Santa Claus for the Mexican children in Barra, Mexico for many years.

He was preceded in death by his father Ernest L. Baham, mother Claire E. Johnston, brothers, Alvin, Wesley and John and sister Cleo Hewitt.

Survivors include his sister, Ellen Battuello of St. Helena and numerous nieces and nephews as well as his many friends in Mexico.

At his request no services will be held. Inurnment will be in Barra De Navidad, Mexico. *
