Bettye Marguerite Andren

On September 7, 2018, and at the age of 96, Bettye M. Andren passed away peacefully with family members at her side at St. Joseph Hospital in Tacoma, Washington.

Bettye was born on March 1, 1922 in Glendale, California, to Theodore Ottis Powers and Ida Marie Pearson.

She graduated from Stadium High School in 1940. Not long after graduating, she married her beloved husband, Robert A. Andren on January 21, 1941 in Olympia, Washington and had nine wonderful children.

Everyone who had the pleasure of knowing Bettye knew she was a huge sports fan. She was always cheering on the Seahawks, Mariners, and a few of her favorite racers in NASCAR.

In her latter years, she worked as a hostess at Grassi’s Restaurant in Downtown Tacoma, until she reached her mid 70’s. Bettye enjoyed socializing and spending her time mostly with family, telling her many stories with added imagination, and some with full imagination. She was a proud Swede and stubborn as they come, yet sweeter than pumpkin pie with whipped cream on top. On a more serious note, she loved everyone dearly.

Bettye was preceded in death by her husband: Robert Albert Andren; her daughters: Patti Marie Andren and Carole Rene Peterson; her son: William John Andren; and brother: Theodore Powers.

She was survived by her six children: Sherlie May Gleason (Fred Gleason), James Robert Andren, Richard Carl Andren (Lynn Andren), Robert Theodore Andren, Steven Albert Andren (Maria Andren), John Glynn Andren; Son-in-law: Paul Peterson; Sister and brother-in-law: Inez and Bill Burget; and her many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

She will be missed by so many of us. We love you.
