DAVENPORT - Herbert H. Stedman, 81, of Davenport, died Monday, December 18, 2006, at Genesis West Medical Center. Funeral services will be Friday, December 22, 2006, at 11 a.m. at the First Church of the Nazarene in Davenport. Visitation will be Thursday from 4 to 8 p.m. at The Runge Mortuary. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery, Davenport. Memorials may be made to the First Church of the Nazarene.
Herbert was born April 20, 1925, in Lyons, Iowa, the son of Weldon and Florence (Hartz) Stedman. He was united in marriage to N. Joyce Schafer on November 19, 1954, in Davenport. She died February 11, 2005. They had celebrated 50 years together in 2004.
Herbert worked for Ralston Purina for 36 years and retired in 1990. He was a member of First Church of the Nazarene in Davenport. Herbert's greatest joy was spending time with his family. He will be remembered as a most generous and gracious father and grandfather. He enjoyed working puzzles and playing board games.
Those left to honor his memory include daughters, Lynette (Gary) Elliott, Lisa (Michael) Davis, Bettendorf, and Karen (David) Cramer, Champaign, Ill.; sons, Michael and Jeff, both of Davenport, and Kevin (Elizabeth) Stedman, St. Louis, Mich.; 11 grandchildren; one great-grandchild; sisters, Betty Grill, Moline, and Marie (Jerry) Underwood, Nashville, Tenn.; and a brother, George (Judy) Stedman, Alamo, Texas. His parents, three brothers and two sisters preceded him in death.
