Services for Herman Dale Bruce, 78, of Marietta, OK are set for 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, February 19, 2019, in the Chapel of Flanagan-Watts Funeral Home, Marietta. Officiating will be Bro. Brandon Twyford. Interment will follow in the Jimtown Cemetery, Jimtown, OK, under the direction of Flanagan-Watts Funeral Home & Cremation Services, Marietta.
Born in Loves Valley in Love County, OK, on May 21, 1940, Mr. Bruce was the son of Lawrence Buddy Bruce and Gracie Lee Hughes Bruce. He passed away Sunday, February 17, in Mercy Hospital Ardmore.
A resident of Love County most of his life, Herman was an employee of Chapman Construction for 47 years, retiring as a superintendent. He and the former Virginia Sue Oliphant were married on December 28, 1962 in Love County, OK. Herman enjoyed working around the couple’s home, mowing the yard, driving in the country, watching old western movies, and spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; son, George Bruce, five brothers, Judge, Fred, Donny, Jackie, and Billy Bruce; and a great-granddaughter, Jesse Dawn Ramsey.
Survivors include his wife of 56 years, Virginia Sue Bruce of the home; two sons, Buddy Bruce of Marietta, and Kenny Bruce of Wilson, OK; three daughters, Gracie Lee Thames and husband Kory of North Richland Hills, TX, Robin Joanna Deck and husband Gene of Oklahoma City, OK, and Betty Jean Ramsey of Radcliff, KY; two sisters, Vera Mae Thornton of Gainesville, TX and Barbara “Doby” Blevins of Pensacola, FL; 11 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
Casket bearers are Kevin Glenn, Justin Glenn, Cameron Williams, Caleb Deck, Jason Ramsey, and Colby Deck. Honorary bearers are Brandon Deck and Korbin Glenn.
